George Hardie is an English illustrator and designer best known for his work for Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd, designing the iconic Dark Side of the Moon album cover in 1973 for design agency Hipgnosis. George also worked at the University of Brighton where he was Professor (now retired and awarded Emeritus Professor) running the Master’s Level Sequential Illustration course. Gavin Ambrose, who also works at the University of Brighton, is working with George on his archive.
George was a prolific designer and collector, and Gavin has been collecting items from around the University for many years acquiring an archive of the illustrators work.
These strike sheets (test and running prints from the printer), had lain dormant for many years in a plan chest Gavin eventually found. Each one is double sided and features work from a book George started but never finished until now with the publishing of ‘Manual‘.
